How will I know which level
to take?
- If you have studied Chinese before then you probably
are not sure which level
will be suitable for you. Before we recommend a course
to you, you have to meet with one of our teachers. He/she
will have a small chat with you regarding what you want
to learn from the course and then he/she will conduct
a short test (spoken or written) to evaluate your level.
Once we have the results of your test we will be able
to recommend a course for you.
When do your courses start?
- We have classes starting regularly throughout the
whole year. You can check the News and Events section
of our website for upcoming starting dates. If you cannot
find the information you were looking for, please send
an email enquiry to mt@modern.org.cn. We will get back
to you as soon as possible.
What is the schedule of the Survival
Chinese/Conversational Chinese courses?
- Lessons are held twice a week. The timetable is set
according to students’ requirements. Every lesson consists
of two 50-minute sessions. There is a 10-minute break
between each session.
Are there daytime lessons?
- Yes, there are. We do try to schedule the classes
on days and times available for all students in the
group.
Will classes run during the holidays?
- Classes do not run only during the national holidays.
Where is your school?
- 4th floor, Xing Yuan Business Center, 72 Shanxi Road
(very close to Hunan Road and to the biggest material
market in Nanjing “Bu bu bu”). Look for a white board
with our name and details on it, on the first floor,
behind a glass door. Under the CONTACT US part of our
website you can find a map in both English and Chinese.
What are your teachers like?
- See what our students think. Click

Is the teacher the same person
during the whole this course?
- This depends on the length and the intensity of the
course. But it is usually the same teacher from the
start until the end.
What kind of materials do you
use?
- We do not use books. Materials are in the form of
handouts. They will be handed out in the beginning or
the end (if it is a cultural handout or a task to complete
at home) of every lesson.
What do I need to do to enroll?
- You need to fill in a registration form and pay the
tuition fee. You can do that in person by coming to
the office or you can the download the online registration
form. (a form for each course will be published on our
website one week before the start of the course)
How does one pay for the course?
Cash or card?
- Payment is done in cash and you need to do it before
the start of your course at our office. A receipt saying
tuition fee, in Chinese, will be issued to you.
There is one week left before
payday and I don’t have enough money to pay the whole
tuition fee. Is there a possibility to split the payments?
- Yes. For longer courses we offer an option of paying
the tuition fee by installments.
Is it necessary to attend more
than one night per week?
- Whether to attend all lessons or not is the student's
decision. However, as the training runs according to
a structured syllabus, and the content of previous lessons
is constantly being reviewed, we recommend that all
students attend classes regularly.
How many students are there
usually in a class?
- The average number is about 4. The maximum size is
12.
Where are the students from?
- We have had students from all around the world – Australia,
Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, India, Japan,
Spain, UK, and USA etc.
My friend will come to visit
me for two weeks, would it be possible for him/her to
join the class only for three or four lessons during
those two weeks?
- Unfortunately, no. But your friend is welcome to sign
up for private lessons.
Is it okay for my friend to
sit in the class for a short time to see whether he/she
likes it?
- It is ok as long as everyone else in the classroom
is ok with it too.
