ABOUT NANJING CITY GUIDE
Greetings locals and visitors, and welcome
to Nanjing.
This guide, created by foreigners for
foreigners, will assist you in gaining a better understanding
of the restaurants, nightlife, shopping, and places
of interest that Nanjing has to offer. From shopping
in Xinjiekou to exploring Nanjing’s green terrain, the
city is full of surprises. This guide was designed with
the intention of making your stay in Nanjing an easy
and enjoyable one. We have done our best to assemble
an up to date, convenient, pocket-sized guide to illustrate
all that Nanjing has to offer. Our focus is to identify
aspects of the city that appeal most to foreigners.
Xinjiekou lies in the city center, offering high-end
to low-end shopping options, restaurants, and a downtown
atmosphere. Just North of Xinjiekou you will find 1912,
a city block of bars, clubs, and restaurants. It’s unique
grey buildings and brick sidewalks make it an interesting
change of scenery from the rest of the city. A little
further north is Zhujiang Lu, otherwise known as “The
Computer Street”. Heading west on Zhujiang Lu, you will
run into Shanghai Lu and find yourself near Nanjing’s
universities. This is a great area for running into
foreigners, shopping for DVDs, and finding some great
western food options. If you are seeking a more peaceful
atmosphere, try exploring the elegant campus of Nanjing
Normal University. Due north on Ninghai Lu you will
run into Hunan Lu and the pedestrian street, Shiziqiao.
Shiziqiao boasts one of the most diverse restaurant
selections in town, and Hunan Lu is filled with small
shops and large department stores. If you are looking
for more restaurant choices, head south to the Xinleyuan
dining district, near the Nanjing Sheraton. Even further
south lies Fuzimiao, one of the most commonly known
touristy areas in Nanjing. Here you will find even more
restaurants, a wide selection of souvenirs, and foreigner
attractions. On the outskirts of the city lie the residential
areas of He Xi, Yueya Lake, and the industrial areas
of Pukou, Jiangning, and Xingang. These developing areas
will have much to offer the future of Nanjing.
We hope our guide helps you on your way. Enjoy.
