Survival Chinese

Modern Training's unique Survival Chinese Program is designed to allow participants at lower proficiency levels to acquire the language skills needed for effective communication in a short period of time. Topics studied include everyday situations and Chinese culture, society, and history. Survival Chinese serves as a foundation for progression to other Chinese courses at Modern Training.

Course Name

Survival Chinese
Course Aim Learning everyday basic conversation skills in order to survive in a Chinese city. Recognising basic Chinese characters on signs, labels and menus.
Entry Requirements No Chinese language skills required
Course Description The Chinese phonetic transcription system (pinyin) will be taught from the very beginning of the course, and will be used throughout. Essential vocabulary and phrases necessary for day-to-day life in China are the primary learning goals. Characters commonly used in public signs will also be taught. Basic information concerning Chinese grammar and characters will be introduced. Cultural and practical information will be provided in the form of handouts after each session.
